Is it possible to visit Boxgrove. I am coming to the UK in May/June. Is there an exhibit on site that gives some information on the excavations and their findings.
Kind regards
William
Hello, I am wondering whether it is possible to visit this site please? I have a keen interesting in human paleontology and live locally.
Best wishes
Dionne
I’m afraid it’s not open to the public.
Why is it not open to the public?
The archaeology is preserved in geology and it isn’t easy to maintain or interpret to the public. Some of the stars finds are on display right now at the Natural History Museum http://www.nhm.ac.uk/visit-us/whats-on/temporary-exhibitions/britain-million-years/
Like Dionne above, I too have a keen interest. I have visited Happisbugh & Pakefield and would also like to visit Boxgrove since I have been reading about it for years. Are there any conducted tours or excavation seasons one could join?
I live only 40 miles away.
Regards
Bert
I`m a qualified archaeologist is the site still being excavated? I thought it had been finished many years back if its still going is there a chance of me doing some field work there/ I trained at the institute of archaeology some years back with Birkbeck I have had field experience before and I am very good at cataloguing and sorting finds out . many thanks Kevin Atkins
I’m afraid it isn’t being actively excavated right now.
Matt – A follow up quesion please – are there any exhibition materials such as photographs, maps or atrefacts on display or available for public viewing?
I’m delighted to say there is a lot of Boxgrove material on display at the Natura History Museum’s “One Million Years” exhibit http://www.nhm.ac.uk/visit-us/whats-on/temporary-exhibitions/britain-million-years/
